Combating Child Sex Tourism & Trafficking in Goa Phase-II

As a part of the ‘Combating Child Sex Tourism’ campaign in Goa a social mobilization action plan was launched through participatory communication workshops, which were held during June- September 2006 in four colleges in Goa.

250 young people were trained in communication with the use of comics and out of this 45 were identified as master trainers. They were further trained in another workshop. These master trainers have formed a group called ‘Goankar Changemakers’. This group will conduct workshops with the community to take the campaign forward.

An exhibition known by the same name ’Goankar Changemakers’ was organized at the Kala Academy, Goa where   posters and booklets were exhibited. This exhibition will be taken to all talukas in Goa, as a part of an initiative by the Goa Children’s Commission.

Photography: a medium for telling stories

In alliance with UNICEF, a series of three photography workshops were conducted in the districts of Surat (Gujarat), Bangalore (Karnataka) and Purulia (West  Bengal) in May 2008, with a group of peer educators working in the field of HIV/AIDS and other social issues. The participants were introduced to photography as a medium to capture/ document stories of their work.

AN exhibition of the photographs taken by these participants was displayed at the UNICEF peer convention ‘Young Voices of India’ held in Bangalore in May 2008.
